Wenzhou Choir’s 20th Anniversary Concert National Tour Ends in Beijing
On October 24, reporters from China News Service were present at a remarkable event held at the Beijing Concert Hall, celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Wenzhou City Choir. As the heartfelt lyrics of “Same Song” filled the air, the audience was drawn into a warm embrace of nostalgia and cultural pride.
The concert featured two distinct halves. The first half, titled “Poetic Verses and Songs of Praise,” showcased original classics from renowned lyricists and composers, emphasizing a deep sense of cultural confidence and patriotic sentiment. The second half, themed “Hometown Voices and Heartfelt Sounds,” brought to life classic pieces infused with elements of Wenzhou culture, including beloved songs about the city, reinterpretations of local folk melodies, and contemporary works crafted especially for Wenzhou by notable musicians.
Audiences were particularly enchanted by the thoughtful selection of pieces that evoked feelings of home and the beauty of nature. For many, especially those from Wenzhou residing in Beijing, the concert felt like a heartfelt reunion. Wu Beiti, a former member of the choir now working in the capital, expressed her emotions, saying, “Hearing Wenzhou folk music pieces like ‘Ding Ding Dong’ and ‘Dui Niao’ here in the capital is truly moving.”
The Wenzhou City Choir, founded in 2004 and affiliated with the Wenzhou Cultural, Radio, Television and Tourism Bureau, aims to promote local culture through music. The concert was guided by the Wenzhou Municipal Committee Propaganda Department and organized by the Zhejiang Musicians Association, the Wenzhou Cultural, Radio, Television and Tourism Bureau, the Wenzhou Federation of Literary and Art Circles, and Wenzhou University, marking a significant milestone in their musical journey.
