Typhoon -Tami- gradually intensifies and navigation in Qiongzhou Strait will be suspended
On October 25, the Hainan Meteorological Bureau issued a forecast indicating that Typhoon “Tammei,” the 20th typhoon of the year, is gradually intensifying and could reach typhoon strength. Starting from the night of October 26, it is expected to circulate over the waters from southern Hainan Island to the Xisha Islands, before gradually weakening.
As of 2:00 PM on October 25, the center of “Tammei” was located at 17.6 degrees North latitude and 117.3 degrees East longitude, approximately 530 kilometers east of Sansha City (Xisha Yongxing Island) in Hainan Province. The maximum wind force near the center is rated at level 10, with speeds reaching 28 meters per second.
The Hainan Meteorological Bureau predicts that from October 25 to 29, the province will experience persistent strong winds in some maritime areas due to the influence of “Tammei.” The Xisha and Zhongsha Islands will face strong winds and rain, while Hainan Island will also experience severe weather conditions. From October 30 to November 1, cloudy weather is expected to dominate the region.
Officials from Hainan’s meteorological department advise that “Tammei” will bring sustained strong winds and rain to the Xisha and Zhongsha Islands, urging residents to prepare in advance to mitigate risks and to evacuate any individuals in hazardous areas. The central South China Sea is expected to see prolonged periods of strong winds, prompting vessels operating in these waters to return to port to seek shelter. Additionally, from the night of October 26 through the day of October 27, services across the Qiongzhou Strait may be suspended due to strong winds, and relevant authorities are encouraged to make arrangements for navigation, the transport of vegetables, and traffic control as necessary.
