Southwest’s first durian import under the “1210 bonded stocking” model lands in the Chengdu International Railway Port Comprehensive Bonded Zone

On October 22, in a collaborative effort involving the Qingbaijiang Customs, Chengdu Shuangliu Airport Customs, Chengdu International Railway Port, and the Chengdu Qingbaijiang District Commerce Bureau, a shipment of durians sourced directly from Thailand successfully passed customs in Chengdu. This marks the first time in southwest China that durians have been imported using the cross-border e-commerce “1210 bonded stocking” model.

The “1210 bonded stocking” model allows e-commerce companies to store imported goods in customs-supervised areas, enabling consumers to place orders online. Once an order is generated, it is matched with logistics and payment details, and then delivered directly from the bonded warehouse to consumers in the country. Traditionally, fresh fruit imports involved general trade with taxation, which meant products were first taxed and then distributed to various markets. However, this new model minimizes procurement and logistics costs for businesses, enhances their cash flow, and significantly speeds up the delivery of fresh fruit to consumers.

Anqi, the representative of Haohaigou International Trade (Chengdu) Co., Ltd., shared insights on this process: “The durians were shipped from Thailand, carefully checked, then airlifted to the airport and transported to the Chengdu International Railway Port’s comprehensive bonded area. From there, they were shipped directly from the bonded warehouse, ensuring consumers enjoyed ’48-hour’ express delivery.” She further emphasized that compared to traditional trade methods, the cross-border e-commerce 1210 model allows consumers to benefit from duty-free purchases and a reduced VAT rate, which is particularly advantageous for perishable products like durians that require swift delivery.

Yanyi, Deputy Director of the Qingbaijiang Customs, explained the meticulous planning that preceded this shipment: “To ensure a smooth and efficient process from the moment the goods arrived, our customs worked closely with Chengdu Shuangliu Airport Customs, Chengdu International Railway Port, and the local commerce department. Given the high freshness and time-sensitive nature of these products, we implemented a special fast-track clearance procedure for the merchandise, conducted pre-approvals for product entry, and guided the company in securing plant quarantine permits in advance. We monitored the flight and logistics in real time, enabling prompt reporting, review, and release, thereby assuring the quality of the fresh fruit.” After passing inspections at Tianfu International Airport’s designated fruit supervision area, the durians were quickly transferred to the Chengdu International Railway Port’s comprehensive bonded area and declared for exit, allowing consumers to taste fresh Thai durians on the same day.

This successful import through the cross-border e-commerce “1210 bonded stocking” model establishes a new channel for importing durians from Thailand and Vietnam, enhancing business confidence and expanding enterprises in the region. It also enriches the variety of quality global products available to the people of Chengdu, laying a solid foundation for scaled cross-border e-commerce fruit trade in the Qingbaijiang District.
