Shocked by the trade, Towns introduced himself to Bronson and paid a visit to the dock on check-in day
In a recent development, Karl-Anthony Towns, the star forward for the Minnesota Timberwolves, participated in his first practice with the New York Knicks after his surprising trade to the team. During an interview, Towns expressed his astonishment upon learning about the trade but noted that Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau would help him adapt quickly to his new environment.
The Timberwolves arranged a three-way trade with the Knicks and the Charlotte Hornets, sending Towns in exchange for Julius Randle, Donte DiVincenzo, Keita Bates-Diop, and draft picks. After bidding farewell to the Timberwolves and their fans on social media, Towns officially reported to the Knicks the following day.
Reflecting on the trade, Towns admitted he was taken aback initially. However, the chance to work with Thibodeau again brought him a sense of comfort. “I feel we have a bit of an advantage,” he said. “I understand and appreciate his style of offensive play, and I’m aware of his expectations for defense and his players.”
Regarding recent rumors where Knicks captain Jalen Brunson appeared unfamiliar with Towns, the forward took the initiative to introduce himself. “The first thing I did today was walk up to Brunson and say, ‘Hi, I’m Towns.’ I knew it had to be a challenging situation for him.”
Towns, who hails from New Jersey, expressed his excitement about playing for a team close to his roots. “I’ll get to see my grandmother more often and spend time with my niece and nephew,” he shared. “Since finding out I was returning to New York, my phone has been buzzing nonstop. I’m really thankful for this opportunity.”
Thibodeau also commented on his renewed partnership with Towns, acknowledging the growth he has experienced. “He’s gained valuable experience and has been deeper into the playoffs,” Thibodeau noted. “Even though you try to prepare for those situations, you have to go through them to fully understand what they entail. He’s more equipped now than when he first entered the league.”
