Only 0.5cm on each side, the world’s smallest magic cube costs 770,000 yen
In a recent interview, representatives from Japan’s MegaHouse company discussed their groundbreaking release, the world’s smallest Rubik’s Cube, which was launched to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the iconic puzzle. This diminutive cube measures just about 0.5 centimeters on each side—smaller than an adult’s fingertip and roughly the size of a grain of rice. It has even earned a Guinness World Record certification as the smallest Rubik’s Cube available on the market, priced at 777,777 yen, or approximately $5,239.
Despite its miniature size, MegaHouse assures us that the cube operates just like a traditional one. The company announced that pre-orders started on their official website following the cube’s Guinness World Record recognition on August 23, with expected shipping slated for April 2025. Each order comes with a custom-designed aluminum stand to ensure collectors don’t misplace their tiny treasure, with the display area matching the size of the cube itself. The stand also proudly displays a label confirming it as the world’s smallest, measuring 0.5 centimeters.
The development process for this miniature marvel took four years, collaborating closely with Iriso Precision, a Saitama-based firm renowned for its precision cutting techniques. The cube is made up of 39 individual pieces and weighs only about 0.3 grams—less than one-tenth the size of a typical Rubik’s Cube. Representatives emphasized the exquisite craftsmanship involved, stating, “We wanted to showcase our fine processing technology, and that’s why we worked with Iriso Precision to create something exceptional.”
Yusuke Mine, an employee from the precision manufacturing firm, noted that the greatest challenge in crafting this tiny cube was ensuring the precise spacing between each component. With this release, MegaHouse is not only making a significant technological statement but also adding a unique and creative twist to the celebration of the Rubik’s Cube’s 50-year legacy. Enthusiasts and collectors alike are eagerly anticipating the opportunity to engage with this remarkable puzzle.
