Jon Stewart to Elon Musk- ‘Guns don’t protect our free speech’

During a recent episode of *The Daily Show*, guest host Jon Stewart took aim at Elon Musk’s appearance alongside Donald Trump at a Pennsylvania rally, pointing out the evident double standards in Trump’s recent associations. He drew parallels to Trump’s past criticisms of Mark Zuckerberg regarding election interference and expressed skepticism about Musk’s claims of supporting free speech.

“Musk said, ‘the other side wants to take away your freedom of speech,’ but I’m not sure he fully grasped the entire vibe of the rally,” Stewart quipped. He noted that while Musk touts the First Amendment, Trump’s actions often seem geared toward stifling dissent, referencing lawsuits against films Trump disapproves of and imprisoning tech leaders he doesn’t favor.

Stewart challenged Musk’s claim that the Second Amendment protects the First, insisting, “This isn’t about intimidating people with guns; it’s about the consent of the governed as laid out in our Constitution.” He elaborated, “Our social contract offers numerous ways to address grievances, not through violence, but through democratic means.” Speaking directly to Musk, Stewart acknowledged the country’s imperfections but emphasized that resolving these issues through a constitutional framework is what makes it worthwhile.

Shifting the conversation, Jimmy Kimmel commented on Trump’s weekend obsession with a joke he made during the Oscars back in March. Kimmel chuckled as he recounted Trump’s recent social media post that featured him hosting, saying, “Yeah, we remember. And you know why? Because you keep bringing it up.” Kimmel playfully pointed out that Trump is still fixated on a joke from months ago, suggesting that Trump thrives on the attention generated by these scenarios.

Meanwhile, Seth Meyers addressed the growing phenomenon at Trump’s rallies where attendees were seen leaving mid-speech. Meyers humorously questioned Trump’s narrative that those exiting were actually rushing to the stage for photos, mocking, “Does he really think we’re going to buy that the stream of people heading for the exits is a mad dash to engage with him?” He also noted that the length of Trump’s speeches has nearly doubled recently, criticizing Trump’s failure to recognize when to wrap it up: “You’re supposed to leave them wanting more. Trump leaves them wanting out.”

To add some humor, Meyers remarked on the bizarre visuals when Trump brought Musk on stage, joking, “Musk looks like he’s trying to leap for a rescue rope ladder—like he’s falling instead of jumping,” capturing the strange dynamics at play during these events.
