Israeli media- Israel makes three demands for ceasefire in Lebanon

On October 13, reports from the Israeli Channel 12, cited by the Times of Israel, shed light on Israel’s conditions for a ceasefire in Lebanon amidst the ongoing conflict with Hezbollah.

Key demands from Israel include the following:

Firstly, Israel insists on the implementation of United Nations Resolution 1701, which calls for the expulsion of Hezbollah from the temporary border areas between Lebanon and Israel, along with the disarmament of the group.

Secondly, Israel seeks international oversight to prevent Hezbollah from rearming, particularly along the Syria-Lebanon border, a crucial focus area.

Thirdly, Israel must retain the capability to act within Lebanese territory if threats are identified, including limited ground operations.

On the other side of the conflict, Hezbollah’s Deputy Secretary-General, Naeem Qasim, stated on October 8 that the group supports the efforts of Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri to facilitate a ceasefire. He indicated that if a diplomatic solution is viable, Hezbollah would be open to discussing the details of the ceasefire. However, Qasim warned that if hostilities with Israel persist, “the battlefield will determine the outcome.”
