Hubei- -Democratic supervision + procuratorial supervision- promotes ecological and environmental protection of the Yangtze River
On October 16, in Wuhan, a press conference was jointly held by the Hubei Provincial United Front Work Department and the Hubei Provincial People’s Procuratorate to discuss the collaborative efforts in promoting ecological protection along the Yangtze River. They highlighted the integration of democratic supervision and legal oversight by procuratorial authorities, aimed at fostering a joint effort in environmental conservation.
Since the initiative began, a total of 1,344 volunteer members, including individuals from various democratic parties, have joined the “Yi Xin Wei Gong” program. These volunteers have actively identified and addressed issues related to the ecological protection of the Yangtze River.
The conference revealed the establishment of a 39-member expert database dedicated to the democratic supervision of Yangtze River ecology. This group includes representatives from various democratic parties, independent individuals, and other experts, all working in close collaboration with the procuratorial authorities. Their involvement encompasses specialized consultations, case deliberations, and public hearings, providing intellectual support for public interest litigation related to environmental protection.
Additionally, members of democratic parties are encouraged to register as “Yi Xin Wei Gong” volunteers, offering their services in legal cases, research, training, and legal literacy programs. The initiative also promotes the leadership role of these members within volunteer organizations such as “Yangtze Sentinels,” “Civil River and Lake Stewards,” and “Environmental Volunteer Associations.” Through the “Yi Xin Wei Gong” activities, they aim to broaden the channels for reporting ecological concerns.
Moving forward, both parties plan to focus on addressing significant environmental issues highlighted by regulatory feedback and community concerns. These efforts will concentrate on joint oversight in areas such as port pollution, agricultural runoff, urban sewage networks, and solid waste management along the Yangtze River.
