Four people were administratively punished for fabricating false information such as -large-scale demolition in Chengdu-

On October 17, the Chengdu Public Security Bureau issued a report addressing recent online rumors regarding large-scale demolition projects in Sichuan, claiming a massive 2.15 trillion yuan initiative and suggesting that some individuals became instant millionaires overnight. These claims have sparked considerable public debate and disrupted social order, prompting the Chengdu Housing and Urban-Rural Development Bureau and the Planning and Natural Resources Bureau to issue clarifications.

In an investigation initiated by the Chengdu Public Security Bureau, it has been revealed that a 29-year-old local resident named Yan generated fictitious information using AI software, claiming “Sichuan starts 2.15 trillion yuan demolition projects.” He published this misinformation on social media on October 15, hoping to attract attention. Other individuals involved—37-year-old Chen and 22-year-old Xu—further spread false claims like “A friend lost 17 houses” and “Not bad, I got 9.6743 million yuan in compensation,” which contributed to widespread public concern.

Additionally, another individual, a 32-year-old local known as Fan, fabricated an image suggesting that “Chengdu is reserving land for the United Nations headquarters, relocating the capital, and setting aside space for Disney.” This also had a detrimental social impact.

As a result of their actions, all four individuals have faced administrative penalties for fabricating facts and causing public disorder in violation of China’s Public Security Administration Punishment Law.

The public security authorities emphasize their commitment to a “zero-tolerance” policy against the creation and dissemination of rumors that disrupt public order and will continue to enforce the law strictly. Citizens are urged to disregard rumors and rely solely on official and authoritative information.
