Donated shirts art project turned into exhibition
In an exciting upcoming exhibition, Finnish artist Kaarina Kaikkonen will showcase her artwork titled “Dancing Together: A Ballad,” which features hundreds of donated shirts, originally displayed at Charing Cross in St Helier. This new rendition will be housed indoors at ArtHouse Jersey, located in Capital House.
The exhibition aims to capture the diverse stories behind the shirts, reflecting the lives of the islanders. It will be unveiled at a launch celebration on October 31, with the exhibition open to the public until December 1. ArtHouse Jersey seeks to provide islanders with a more intimate connection to the human stories intertwined with these garments.
Kaikkonen shared her vision, stating, “I want to use materials that have had a previous life. Then I change it and give it a new life, a new form of art.”
Visitors can view the artwork every day except Mondays, from 10:30 AM to 6:00 PM GMT.
Additionally, the exhibition will feature interactive storytelling performances by storyteller Paul Journeaux along with Portuguese musicians Rui Figueredo and Abel Salgado. These performances are scheduled for November 9 at 4:00 PM GMT, November 17 at 3:00 PM GMT, and November 23 at 4:00 PM GMT.
