Malaysia releases 2025 ASEAN rotating chairmanship logo

On October 22, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia was officially announced as the ASEAN Chair for 2025, with the ceremony hosted by Foreign Minister Mohamed Hassan. During the event, Hassan highlighted that the symbol unveiled reflects Malaysia’s commitment to fostering regional inclusivity and sustainable development.

The design of the emblem is inspired by Malaysia’s national flower, the hibiscus. Its five petals curve inward to form a circular shape around the central ASEAN logo, symbolizing Malaysia’s dedication to promoting peace, stability, and prosperity within ASEAN. Rising from the top of each petal is a stamen adorned with six small dots on either side. These represent the six principles of Prime Minister Anwar’s “Malaysia Madani” vision: sustainability, prosperity, innovation, respect, trust, and care. The logo’s color palette of blue, red, yellow, and white encompasses the primary colors of all ASEAN member states’ flags, emphasizing the theme of unity within the region.

During the launch event, Hassan stated that Malaysia aims to expedite Timor-Leste’s transition to full ASEAN membership by streamlining the necessary documentation process. Timor-Leste officially applied for ASEAN membership in 2011 and is currently recognized as an observer member.

Earlier this month, on November 11, Prime Minister Anwar represented Malaysia at the ASEAN Chairmanship handover ceremony held in Vientiane, Laos. This will mark Malaysia’s fifth term as ASEAN Chair, having previously held the position in 1977, 1997, 2005, and 2015.
