Xi Jinping had a phone call with Indonesian President Joko

On the afternoon of October 14th, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indonesian President Joko Widodo engaged in a phone conversation.

During the call, Xi highlighted that in the ten years of President Joko’s tenure, he has visited China eight times, and they have met twelve times. This interaction has opened a new chapter in building a community with a shared future between the two nations and established a comprehensive strategic cooperation framework. Xi expressed his appreciation for Joko’s significant contributions to Sino-Indonesian friendship and expressed confidence that the new Indonesian government would continue to embrace a friendly policy toward China, advancing the development of their shared destiny partnership to even greater heights.

Xi emphasized China’s willingness to collaborate with Indonesia on high-quality development of the Belt and Road Initiative, ensure the sustainable operation of the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway, and create more highlights in cooperation that would benefit the peoples of both countries. He noted that next year marks the 70th anniversary of the Bandung Conference, and China is eager to work with Indonesia to promote the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence and the spirit of Bandung, fostering solidarity and cooperation among global South countries, safeguarding the interests of developing countries, and promoting regional and global development, prosperity, and stability.

In response, President Joko mentioned the strong friendship that he has built with President Xi over the past decade, which has led to significant achievements in comprehensive strategic partnership and mutually beneficial cooperation across various fields. He expressed gratitude for China’s positive contributions to Indonesia’s economic development, noting that the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway serves as a model for the Belt and Road Initiative collaboration. Joko conveyed his confidence that under the leadership of the new Indonesian government, the relationship between the two countries would continue to thrive.
