The Ministry of Foreign Affairs responded to the passage of US and Canadian warships through the Taiwan Strait- The Taiwan issue is not an issue of freedom of navigation.
During a press conference on October 21, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian was asked about the recent passage of a U.S. destroyer and a Canadian frigate through the Taiwan Strait on October 20.
Lin Jian responded, noting that the Eastern Theater Command has already addressed the situation. He emphasized that Taiwan is an inseparable part of Chinese territory. “The issue of Taiwan is not merely about freedom of navigation; it is deeply tied to China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” he stated. Lin reiterated China’s firm opposition to any country using the pretext of freedom of navigation to provoke or threaten China’s sovereignty and security.
