Han Zheng attended the inauguration ceremony of Indonesia’s new president and visited Indonesia
On October 20, Han Zheng, the special representative of President Xi Jinping and Vice President of China, attended the inauguration ceremony of Indonesia’s newly elected President Prabowo in Jakarta, following an invitation from the Indonesian government. During his visit from October 19 to 21, Han also met with outgoing President Joko Widodo and the newly appointed Vice President, Gibran.
In his meeting with President Prabowo, Han conveyed warm congratulations and best wishes from President Xi. He emphasized Prabowo’s immediate visit to China as a strong reflection of Indonesia’s deep regard for China and a commitment to developing bilateral relations. Han noted that the meeting between Xi and Prabowo resulted in important consensus on further strengthening cooperation between the two nations. He highlighted the alignment between Prabowo’s inaugural speech, which emphasized food sovereignty and poverty reduction, and Xi’s people-centered development approach. Han expressed confidence that under Prabowo’s leadership, Indonesia would achieve significant advancements in national development, and he reiterated China’s support for the new administration.
Han proposed three key suggestions for the future development of China-Indonesia relations: first, to enhance strategic mutual trust with firm support on core interests; second, to deepen comprehensive and mutually beneficial cooperation for broader public benefit; and third, to promote closer international collaboration towards fairer global governance.
During his meeting with Prabowo, the new president expressed heartfelt thanks and warm regards to President Xi, welcoming Han as Xi’s special representative at the inauguration. Prabowo recognized China as an influential country and a strong partner for Indonesia, emphasizing the new government’s commitment to sustaining the friendly policies established by President Joko and further deepening mutual support and cooperation.
When meeting with Joko Widodo, Han extended greetings from President Xi and highlighted the past decade as a period of high-level development in China-Indonesia relations. He noted that under the leadership of both Xi and Joko, the partnership had elevated to a new era characterized by collaborative development. Han expressed China’s desire to build on the strong traditions of friendship and cooperation, enhancing strategic collaboration and advancing major projects like the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway to foster solidarity and mutual benefit.
Joko conveyed his sincere greetings to President Xi and thanked him for a recent phone conversation. He remarked on the fruitful achievements of cooperation between Indonesia and China in recent years, citing the high-speed railway as a symbol of their friendship. He expressed confidence that under the new government, bilateral relations would reach new heights.
In his meeting with Vice President Gibran, Han offered congratulations on his new role and emphasized the strong partnership between China and Indonesia, which has brought tangible benefits to both peoples. He expressed China’s willingness to align with the new government’s priorities and deepen practical cooperation across various fields for mutual benefit.
Gibran affirmed the new government’s commitment to implementing the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, ensuring the continued positive momentum of their relationship and deepening bilateral cooperation for the benefit of both nations and their peoples.
