Former US President Carter votes early for the 2024 election- -He most wants to vote for Harris-
On October 17, reports from various U.S. media outlets highlighted that early voting for the 2024 election has begun in Georgia. Jason Carter, the grandson of former President Jimmy Carter and current chair of the Carter Center, confirmed on October 16 that his grandfather has participated in early voting and has submitted an absentee ballot.
According to The New York Times, Jason Carter shared via text message that his grandfather’s ballot was placed in a drop box at a local courthouse in Georgia. In the state, relatives are allowed to return completed absentee ballots on behalf of voters.
The Associated Press noted that Chip Carter, one of Jimmy Carter’s sons, mentioned during a family gathering that his father is very concerned about the upcoming presidential election.
The New York Times cited family members saying that President Carter’s top choice is to vote for the Democratic presidential candidate, Vice President Kamala Harris.
Jimmy Carter served as the 39th President of the United States from 1977 to 1981. He was diagnosed with malignant melanoma in 2015, with the cancer having spread to his liver and brain; however, he has since declared himself cancer-free after treatment. In 2019, Carter experienced several falls and underwent hip replacement surgery. Since February 2023, he has been receiving hospice care at his home in Plains, Georgia. On October 1, 2024, he celebrated his 100th birthday, making him the oldest living former president in U.S. history.
