Artist wins award for Cornwall festival print

Denzil Forrester, a talented artist from Cornwall, has recently been honored with the prestigious Robson Orr TenTen Award for his captivating print that encapsulates the essence of a reggae festival in Cornwall. At a special event held at the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy commended Forrester’s work, emphasizing its vibrant depiction of the UK’s diverse music scene.

Nandy shared her enthusiasm for displaying 15 editions of Forrester’s print across UK government buildings worldwide. She highlighted that this artwork not only embodies the lively spirit of the UK’s music culture but also aims to raise funds to support emerging and underrepresented artists throughout the country.

Forrester’s piece, titled “Altar,” is a four-plate polymer etching that he describes as a tribute to Cornwall’s nightlife. “I wanted to capture how light and sound can transform a space,” he said. “Using an aerial perspective, I aimed to depict the dynamic atmosphere as it unfolds from above, incorporating elements typical of my paintings along with the unique light that Cornwall offers.”

In a bid to support underrepresented artists, 11 editions of this print will be made available for sale. Forrester’s commitment to showcasing the brilliance of Cornwall and its arts community shines through in both his work and his mission.
