On October 22nd, the opening ceremony for the three-day “Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao” National Paralympic Games and Special Olympics Roller Skiing Promotion Event took place in Guangzhou.
This event, which will run until October 24th, has attracted nine teams from eight provinces, all of whom will engage in professional theoretical learning, familiarize themselves with the event rules and training methods, and participate in technical training and group competitions.
Roller skiing is one of the popular events for the 2025 “Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao” National Paralympic Games and Special Olympics. As a land-based training method for cross-country skiing, roller skiing allows athletes to maintain and enhance their competitive skills during the off-season. This initiative not only contributes significantly to the promotion of ice and snow sports but also aligns with national efforts to encourage fitness among all citizens.
The organizers of the event emphasized that this initiative will boost the development of roller skiing teams across provinces, better preparing them for the 2025 National Paralympic Games and Special Olympics. It aims to provide a platform for disabled roller skiing enthusiasts nationwide to showcase their talents, ensuring the spirit of ice and snow sports continues throughout the year and further promotes the development of sports for people with disabilities.
Qiu Zhiyi, project manager of the China Disabled Persons’ Federation, expressed the hope that this promotion event would serve as a catalyst for more disabled individuals to learn about and participate in roller skiing. He stressed the importance of advancing the sport to higher levels and creating opportunities for disabled individuals to engage in athletic activities while developing more fitness programs tailored to their needs. This effort aims to enhance the quality of life for people with disabilities and enrich their cultural experiences.
Ke Mofu, deputy chairman of the Guangdong Provincial Disabled Persons’ Federation, stated that hosting the roller skiing promotion event is significant for expanding ice and snow sports in all seasons, broadening the talent pool for cross-country skiing, and implementing the strategy of promoting ice and snow sports to southern, western, and eastern regions. This event also serves as a platform for disabled individuals to achieve their dreams through sports participation.
The event is organized by the China Disabled Persons’ Federation and jointly hosted by the Guangdong Provincial Disabled Persons’ Federation and the Guangzhou Disabled Persons’ Federation, with support from the Guangzhou Disabled Sports Center, the Guangzhou Disabled Sports Association, the Huadu District Disabled Persons’ Federation, and the People’s Government of Tanbu Town in Huadu District.
