Dissatisfied with Washington’s repeated criticism of Putin, Russia- Exposing the American world view
In a recent statement, the Kremlin responded sharply to comments made by Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris, who described Russian President Vladimir Putin as a “ruthless dictator.” Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov characterized this as part of a broader narrative from U.S. politicians attempting to impose their views on the world.
According to a Reuters report, Peskov’s remarks were made amid a heated exchange regarding the U.S. presidential election and the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. He stated on a television program, “The seemingly noble political system in the U.S. is filled with such political culture.”
He continued, “This may encapsulate their attempt to impose an international relations model on the world, which the majority of people are increasingly rejecting.”
Peskov’s comments appeared to be a direct response to Harris’s previous statements. Notably, in a new book by veteran journalist Bob Woodward, it was revealed that former President Donald Trump, during his time in office and amid the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, had sent testing equipment to Russia. Harris, during a radio interview, referred to Putin in harsh terms, calling him a “ruthless dictator.”
Relations between the U.S. and Russia have plummeted to a new low since the outbreak of the Ukraine war, the worst since the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962. Both nations insist that domestic matters should not be subjected to external scrutiny.
Earlier this year, in February, the U.S. had already requested that Putin refrain from commenting on American elections, reiterating this request last month. This came after Putin publicly expressed his support for Harris over Trump in the upcoming November elections, even mentioning her “infectious laughter.”
This exchange sparked additional comments from Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, who remarked that Putin often jokingly makes public statements.
Furthermore, excerpts from Woodward’s book published in The Washington Post and The New York Times suggest that President Biden has privately criticized several foreign leaders, with Putin being labeled as “the embodiment of evil.”
