A large-scale rainfall process has begun in the central and eastern regions. After the rainfall, a new wave of strong cold air will hit
According to a report from the China Meteorological Administration on October 16, significant rainfall was observed across the southwestern region, Jiangnan, and South China yesterday, with some areas experiencing heavy downpours or torrential rain. In parts of northwestern Sichuan, eastern and southern Qinghai, eastern Tibet, and northwestern Xinjiang, there were reports of mixed rain and snow. The forecast for the next three days indicates an increase in precipitation across the country, with strong rainfall expected from the eastern southwestern region to the Huanghuai area. Additionally, snowfall is anticipated in northwestern Xinjiang, eastern Tibet, and central-southern Qinghai.
Today, rain is forecasted mainly in southeastern Sichuan, Chongqing, northern Guizhou, and southern Yunnan, where the daily rainfall is expected to range from moderate to heavy. Localized areas in southern Chongqing and northern Guizhou might experience torrential rain. Moreover, regions like northwestern Xinjiang, eastern Tibet, and parts of the Sichuan Plateau could see light to moderate snow or mixed precipitation, with localized heavier snow predicted (10-15 mm) in certain areas along the western Tianshan Mountains.
Looking ahead to tomorrow, the scope and intensity of rain and snow are set to increase significantly. Areas in central and eastern Guizhou, northern Hunan, eastern Hubei, northwestern Jiangxi, northern Anhui, eastern Henan, northern Jiangsu, southern Shandong, central and southern Shanxi are likely to experience heavy rainfall or torrential downpours. Meanwhile, regions in northern Xinjiang, eastern and central-southern Tibet, southern Qinghai, northern parts of the Sichuan Plateau, northeastern Inner Mongolia, and northern Heilongjiang may see light to moderate snow or mixed precipitation, with potential blizzards in certain areas along the Tianshan Mountains.
Experts have warned that by the 17th, rain and snow will reach their peak, impacting visibility and making road conditions slippery, which could pose challenges for transportation. They advise the public to plan their travel routes and timing accordingly.
Additionally, following the precipitation, a surge of cold air is expected to sweep across most areas north of the Yangtze River between the 18th and 19th, bringing strong winds and a drop in temperatures. Areas in eastern Northwest China, northeastern regions, central-eastern North China, eastern Huanghuai, Jianghuai, eastern Jianghan, and northeastern Jiangnan could see temperatures drop by 8-10℃, with northern North China and central-southern Northeast regions experiencing a decrease of 10-12℃, and some localized spots possibly exceeding 14℃. After the temperature drop, the minimum temperature line is projected to reach northern North China. The public is urged to pay close attention to temperature changes, take necessary precautions to stay warm, and maintain their health.
