Malaysia holds its first Semiconductor Recruitment Day and plans to cultivate 60,000 semiconductor talents
On October 6th in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia wrapped up its inaugural Semiconductor Recruitment Day after two days of events.
The event, which began on October 4th, was co-hosted by the Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation and the Malaysia Advanced Semiconductor Institute. The opening ceremony featured Malaysia’s Minister of Economy, Rafizi Ramli, alongside Selangor State Executive Councillor, Teng Chang Khim. The recruitment day drew around 2,000 university students from across Malaysia, showcasing 25 internationally renowned companies, including some from China.
In his remarks during the event, Teng Chang Khim underscored Malaysia’s national semiconductor strategy, which is aimed at establishing 10 firms specializing in semiconductor design and advanced packaging, as well as 100 companies within the semiconductor supply chain. The Klang Valley semiconductor corridor, which spans Selangor and Kuala Lumpur, is anticipated to host approximately 40 of these enterprises. To support this ambitious plan, Malaysia is dedicating efforts to train 60,000 semiconductor professionals.
Yang Kaiping, the head of Selangor’s Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation, expressed optimism that this initiative would cultivate a talent ecosystem for the semiconductor industry in Malaysia. He highlighted the need to attract the country’s “brightest talents” to bolster the robustness of Malaysia’s semiconductor supply chain.
