1.386 billion people! Social Security “Small Card” Supports People’s Livelihood “Great Happiness”
Recent reports from the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security indicate that the number of social security cardholders in China has reached an impressive 1.386 billion, covering approximately 98.3% of the population.
Currently, the integration of social security services under the “one card” system is making steady progress. The regions of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei, Sichuan-Chongqing, and six other provinces have successfully completed collaborative and provincial legislation for this initiative. Out of the total cardholders, 1.034 billion people are utilizing electronic social security cards, representing 73.4% of the population.
As of the end of September, the number of participants in the essential social insurance schemes stood at 1.075 billion for basic pension insurance, 245 million for unemployment insurance, and 303 million for work-related injury insurance. The total revenue for these three social insurance funds reached 6.1 trillion yuan, with a cumulative surplus of 8.8 trillion yuan by the end of September, indicating a generally stable operation of the social insurance fund.
Furthermore, the national coordination of basic pension insurance for enterprise employees is progressing smoothly. Funds for national coordination have been allocated appropriately in the first three quarters, and pilot programs for occupational injury protection for new employment forms are advancing successfully, with 9.7865 million people covered for occupational injuries as of September.
